According to the 2018 National Association of REALTORS® Member Profile, only 15% of agents have a personal assistant. Therefore tasks like processing new listings, managing closing paperwork, and sending mailings to past clients fall to the agent and take away time that could otherwise be spent building client relationships. When you add these tasks to other daily distractions like smartphones, social media, emails, and the demands of your personal lives, you may find it hard to focus consistently and maximize productivity at work. Some of this disengagement can also come from your cognitive style (i.e. how you perceive and process information). This can have a major impact on time management techniques and how productive you are during the workday. One size doesn’t fit all when it comes to personal productivity style. In fact, 99U says there are four different productivity styles.
Productivity Style: The 4 Types
- The Prioritizer: This productivity style defers to logical, analytical, fact-based, critical, and realistic thinking. May be known in the office for their drive and competitiveness. They have never met a goal they did not like and apply a laser-like focus to ensure they accomplish their goals.
- The Planner: The planner thrives on organized, sequential, planned, and detailed thinking. Their emails are detailed, often including bullet points and clearly stated next-action steps. This productivity style has never met a calendar or project-planning tool that they did not like.
- The Arranger: Prefers supportive, expressive, and emotional thinking. This productivity style is a natural communicator and excel at facilitating project meetings. They are talkers who love stories, eye-to-eye contact, expressing concern for others, and asking questions about the way a project or task helps others.
- The Visualizer: The visualizer prefers holistic, intuitive, integrating, and synthesizing thinking. Focusing on the big-picture and broad concepts making connections is key for this productivity style. Their excessive spontaneity and impulsiveness can lead to breakthrough ideas, but can also derail project plans at times.
